Schimpff's Family

Schimpff's Confectionery

This sweet escape has been a Downtown Jeffersonville staple for more than 100 years and was named the Best Candy Store in the country by USA Today readers in 2025. Since 1891, people of all ages have come to Schimpff’s Confectionery for tasty treats to satisfy any sweet tooth. Though many of the surrounding areas have changed, Schimpff’s has remained and even expanded.

Within the store is a candy museum filled with pieces collected by Warren & Jill Schimpff. When you browse the displays of candy artifacts, it makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time. The highlight of any stop at Schimpff’s is the free candy-making demonstration, during which the shop owners make one of their signature candies on antique equipment. Cross your fingers for a warm red hot, there’s nothing like it! In addition to candy, guests can enjoy beverages from a 1950s soda fountain, as well as freshly made sandwiches and soup at the café. Schimpff’s Confectionery offers each customer a sweet experience they will never forget.

Town Clock Church Tour

This church, sometimes referred to as Town Clock Church, is a designated national Network to Freedom site and has received numerous grants to preserve and restore the facility. Built in 1852, it was originally called the Second Presbyterian Church. Its congregation was instrumental in providing refuge for those seeking freedom during the Underground Railroad movement.

In 1889, an African American congregation purchased the establishment and gave it the name by which it is known today, Second Baptist Church. It has long been a staple of New Albany and is well known for its 160-foot clock tower on the front of the building, hence the nickname. The church holds weekly worship services, and guests are welcome to attend their monthly historical programs to learn all about the church’s direct involvement with the Underground Railroad.
