SoIN to Arts & Culture
Southern Indiana boasts a rich history as a gateway to the North. This history is woven into the area’s fabric. Many public art projects are dedicated to this. Stop in The Carnegie Center for Art and History to see both historical exhibits and contemporary art installations that interpret current events and speak to Indiana’s culture.
Jeffersonville Arts Alliance, with the Jeffersonville Public Art Commission, holds “JAM sessions” where artists and arts educators join the community in creating public art. The commission regularly invites submissions for new projects that contribute to the arts.
We’re not just makers here; we’re performers, too.
Theater is a big deal in SoIN. The area supports a vibrant stage culture, with award-winning performing arts programs, as well as professional theater companies. Young people have ample opportunities to participate while in school, and then step into professional roles. Derby Dinner Playhouse and Theatreworks of Southern Indiana are just two of the companies that you can sample when you visit.
Are you an artist? If so, check out ArtistsCreating digital magazine for the chance to get featured and showcase your art.
ArtistsCreating magazine has a listings section of over 120 artists, galleries, musicians and others and their contact information/websites. They publish articles on art types, with art themes, a single artist every issue, poetry and literature - all from Southern Indiana creatives. Within just one year they have gained over 500 subscribers (and still growing). We publish a full-color online publication of 20-30 pages every two months. Their subscriptions, listings, and advertising are all totally FREE, which is a great opportunity for artists and other creatives to advertise their events on an on-going basis.
