Completed in 1852, the church served as a beacon of hope to freedom seekers across the river. It was a connecting point between cities in a slave and free state, and a safe haven in a hostile environment on a long journey to freedom.
Today, the historical "Town Clock Church" is Second Baptist Church, and was designated an official Network to Freedom site on July 5 by the National Park Service. Friends of the Town Clock Church serves as the charitable organization which helps maintain the church.
