As your Foodie-In-Chief, welcome back to SoIN. Every year for National Pizza Day, my buddies and I carve out time to hit a handful of local pizza spots to see what SoIN is serving up. This has quietly become one of my favorite traditions. Between all of us, there is a lot of shared history in the pizza world, so we do not take this lightly. Throughout the years pizza has been work, friendship, late nights, early mornings, and, in some cases, a second home.

There is something special about loading up the car, bouncing between towns, and sitting down at places that mean something to the people who live there. Some stops surprise you. Others feel like coming back to an old friend. That mix is what makes this day work.

There is a lot to cover, so let’s get right into it.
Here is where you should be eating pizza in SoIN.

The Slice, Georgetown IN (Jon’s Pick)

The Slice pizza

The Slice indoor golf simulator

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good gimmick, and The Slice leans fully into one in the best way possible. A golf-themed pizza spot! Between the decor, the vibe, and the indoor golf simulator, it feels like a place designed for groups to linger. Eat, drink, play a round, and lose track of time a little.

The Slice Big Stick Mozzarella Stick

We started with The Big Stick, and immediately knew we were in for a ride. This massive mozzarella stick is fried perfectly, sliced open, filled with molten cheese, and topped with red sauce poured down the center. It is ridiculous in scale and executed well enough to justify the size. The cheese pull alone could fuel an entire social feed.

The Slice Tee Time Tots Tater Tots

The Tee Time Taters followed: oversized tots stuffed with bacon, cheddar, and chives. This is comfort food turned up just enough to feel special. Dipped in cheese sauce, they somehow avoid being too heavy, which is impressive considering what they are. If these were being served before an actual tee time, I would be showing up early.

The Slice Old Course Hot Pepperoni Pizza

For pizza, we went with The Old Course, The Slice’s take on hot honey pepperoni. The Arrabbiata sauce brings real heat, the Old World pepperoni adds that spicy curl, and the Mama Lil’s peppers with Mike’s Hot Honey tie it all together. The crust is unique and memorable, and the whole thing feels intentional. It is bold, a little unorthodox, and absolutely worth ordering.

Legacy Pizza and Bakery, New Albany IN (Zack’s Pick)

Legacy Pizza

Legacy feels like a place that knows exactly who it is. From the moment you walk in, it feels grounded, calm, and confident. This is an old school Italian bakery that happens to make great pizza, not the other way around. They also supply bread to other restaurants around SoIN, and once you eat here, that makes perfect sense.

Legacy Pizza and Bakery Sausage Rolls

Recently, while on a trip to Ireland, I discovered sausage rolls! So, seeing Legacy’s version immediately caught my attention. Stuffed with Italian rope sausage and wrapped in dough that manages to be crisp and tender at the same time. It hit every note I was hoping for. This is the kind of item that becomes a personal ritual. If I am nearby, I am stopping in.

Bread is a recurring theme here, so cheese breadsticks were a must. What came out looked like a fully inflated pizza, smothered in cheese and dangerously easy to keep eating. At this point, we were already on our second stop of the day, and there was a brief moment where we all realized the road ahead was going to be challenging. Worth it.

Legacy Pizza and Bakery Deep Dish Deluxe Pizza

The Deep Dish Deluxe was the headliner. Loaded with toppings and anchored by a crust that delivers a serious crunch. This pizza feels carefully built. The vegetables taste fresh, the ingredients are high quality, and nothing feels rushed or sloppy. You can taste the care in it.

Legacy Pizza and Bakery Cannoli

Side note: Leave the tip. Take the cannoli.

Hunter Station Pizza, Sellersburg IN (Steven’s Pick)

Hunter Station Pizza

Hunter Station is one of the newer spots on our list, but it already feels woven into the Sellersburg community. From local outreach to the massive Silver Creek Dragons mural on the wall, there is a clear sense that this place is about more than just pizza. It is a gathering spot. If you are looking for pizza and sports, this is an easy choice.

We kept it classic here. Cheese sticks and The Carnivore. Go XL. You will finish it. Every meat, pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and ham, shows up clearly in each bite without turning the pizza into a mess. That balance is harder to pull off than it looks.

The cheese sticks deserve special mention. Easily some of the best around, and good enough that I ordered another batch to take home. That is usually the sign.

Hunter Station Pizza

This is very much a family place. We were sitting there enjoying hot pizza and familiar, comforting flavors when some welcome reinforcements arrived. Completely unplanned, Steven’s family stopped in, jealous of his pizza adventure and unaware we were already there. Watching them walk in felt oddly perfect. This is the kind of spot built for families coming in together, sharing slices, and settling into meals that are more about tradition than chasing trends.

Parlour Pizza, Jeffersonville IN (Matt’s pick)

Parlour Jeffersonville

Parlour Pizza

Parlour is the kind of place where dinner naturally turns into an evening. Between excellent pizza, a deep craft beer list, and legitimately good cocktails, it is easy to lose track of time here. It is one of those spots I find myself returning to without much thought.

Parlour Pizza Wings

I always start with the Smoked Bone-in Wings. The dry rub shines, the chicken is fresh, and the smoke pulls everything together. We also gave the meatball skewers a try, and they delivered in a big way.

Parlour Pizza The Boss

Then there is The Boss. The name caught my eye immediately. Music lovers, you know where my brain went. When I come to Parlour, it feels like finding a “Secret Garden” and I have a “Hungry Heart.” The flavors take me back to “Glory Days” in “My Hometown.” Alright, enough of that.

The Boss is essentially a hot Italian hoagie translated onto a pizza. Pepperoni, salami, ham, hot giardiniera, banana peppers, and red onions all working together. It is bold, balanced, and deeply satisfying.

A few quick notes: Big Red is on tap. Hot honey pepperoni is a must. And you are right next to the Big Four Bridge.

New Albanian Brewing Company, New Albany IN (Casey’s Pick)

New Albanian

New Albanian has one of the most loyal followings in SoIN. When we skipped them during a previous National Pizza Day run, their supporters were quick to let us know. Fair enough. This spot has been a staple in the local scene for years, and while the name has changed over time, the experience has stayed consistent. Solid food, in-house brews, and a space that feels comfortable and familiar.

New Albanian Brewing Company Beer Wall

We started the night with a round of Good Intentions German Lager. Clean, crisp, and easy drinking. Breadsticks and beer cheese followed soon after, which immediately set the tone for the rest of the evening. A couple more rounds later, the table was in a very good place. Calling the beer cheese amazing still does not quite do it justice. They know what they have too, because they sell it to go, and you should absolutely take some home.

New Albanian Brewing Company Pizza

The pizza arrived shortly after. A classic 21-inch pie stacked with sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Simple, familiar, and deeply satisfying. If you’ve got some beer cheese left, you know what to do here. Dip it… Dip it now…. At some point after the pizza hit the table, another round of breadsticks made its way over, which felt less like an impulse and more like tradition.

By the end of the night, we had settled into exactly what New Albanian does best. Good food, good beer, and an easygoing atmosphere that encourages you to stay awhile. We wrapped things up responsibly with a ride-share home, full bellies and good memories marking another classic SoIN stop. Keep fighting the good fight NABC, you have my allegiance!

Arni’s Pizza, New Albany IN

Arni's Pizzas

Arni’s is home. For those of us who grew up nearby or spent time working behind the counter, it is more than a pizza joint. It is part of our story. Arni’s has been serving thin crust, square cut pizza in SoIN for over 50 years, and that longevity comes from being woven into everyday life. This is where friendships were built, work ethic was learned, and countless late nights turned into early mornings.

New Albany became home after years working at the local Arni’s. Between myself, Jon, Steven, and Casey, we all spent time slinging pizzas here, some of us even stepping into management roles. This place taught us pace, consistency, and how to take pride in something simple done right. Those lessons stick with you.

Arni's Hot Sicilian Sub

That is probably why the Hot Sicilian still feels personal. Take the classic Arni’s Sub Sandwich, add crumbled pepperoni, bacon, onion, banana peppers, and mozzarella. Make a boat out of that aluminum foil, and toss that bad boy up in the 600+ degree stone ovens. Once it comes out, top it with lettuce, tomato and Italian dressing. Earlier I forcefully threw out some Springsteen references, but this is where they land. Those “Glory Days” flavors, the kind that feel like “My Hometown,” are exactly what this sandwich brings back. Arni’s Hot Sicilian, you are always in my heart, and when possible, on my plate.

Arni’s pizza is thin, square cut, and crisp with a solid crunch. The bottom holds firm, the edges pick up just enough char, and when it is done right, every bite feels intentional. The 14-inch Deluxe is a great place to start, but my go-to will always be a 14-inch double pepperoni, well done. Heavy toppings, all the way to the edge, a small detail that means everything. That’s how old Bobby Allen taught us. He was a longtime regional manager. He believed toppings should go all the way to the edge, that the crust should have a solid crunch, and that shortcuts were not an option. Bob has been enjoying retirement, but his standards still shape what comes out of those ovens.

Some places chase trends. Others earn loyalty. Arni’s has spent decades doing what it does best. If I see you in an Arni’s shirt out in the wild, you are getting a high five.

*In a whisper*
The cheese blend is the secret to Arni’s Pizza. I mean, people love it! I’ve seen countless people walk in, order a 14-inch cheese for themselves, and demolish it in less than 20 minutes. It was QUITE impressive!

SoIN brought the slices, the stories, and the memories. National Pizza Day only comes once a year, but great pizza is always worth the trip. Until the next pizza run, eat local and enjoy every bite.
