In celebration of Women’s History Month, join museum educator Jessica Hartman for Her-Story Studio, a special extended open studio experience honoring the work, voices, and creative practices of influential women artists past and present.

Rather than meeting weekly, this format offers one immersive studio session where participants may choose which featured artist they would like to base their project on. The program begins with a brief artist spotlight presentation highlighting several groundbreaking women across different mediums, cultures, and time periods. Participants will then select one artist’s approach as inspiration for their own creative exploration.

Featured inspiration may include:

• Frida Kahlo – Identity, symbolism, and expressive self-portraiture

• Georgia O’Keeffe – Abstraction, nature, and dramatic shifts in scale

• Yayoi Kusama – Pattern, repetition, and immersive mark-making

• Faith Ringgold – Storytelling, community, and narrative-based art

Participants will explore themes such as identity, abstraction, repetition, symbolism, and storytelling through guided prompts and open studio time. The emphasis is on process over perfection, creative risk-taking, and personal expression.

Simple supplies will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring additional materials if desired. This program offers a relaxed, supportive space to create, learn, and connect through art while celebrating the lasting impact of women artists.

Perfect for: Pre-Teens, Teens and Adults
Registration: Strongly encouraged

All skill levels are welcome.
