Our annual River-themed lecture series continues this year with "Steamer CAPE GIRARDEAU a 100-year retrospective". This talk will include a presentation on the last Howard-built packet boat, the CAPE GIRAREDAU and chronicle her operation through the Eagle Packet Company to her time with Greene Line of Cincinnati where she became a full-time tourist steamer. This paved the way for the overnight tourist boats we know today. After the presentation, we will have a round table discussion of the role a Howard-built boat played in modern-day inland rivers tourism with people from several generations in the industry.
Based on the last Howard packet, this will be a fascinating look into our history with a nod to our future.
We suggest you ride the Str. BELLE OF LOUISVILLE on her afternoon cruise before this event to put you in the proper steamboating mood. For more on this cruise be sure to visit www.belleoflouisville.org
Note: The BELLE OF LOUISVILLE cruise is not part of the suggested donation and is an entirely separate event.
