An Artistic Journey in Clay
November 18, 2023 – January 13, 2024
Saturday, November 18, 2023, 2:00 to 5:00 pm
Join us at Bourne-Schweitzer Gallery on Saturday afternoon for this gorgeous exhibition of exquisite teapots and other clay forms by Fong Choo. We welcome you to drop by to meet the artist and get that perfect holiday gift.
Fong Choo is a studio potter with over three decades of experience primarily creating his signature diminutive teapots. However, as of late, he has moved back to exploring his utilitarian roots: creating bowls, mugs, vases, platters, etc. to be able to utilize all the “Dwippy” glaze methods that he has been researching these last several years. It was also during this glaze research period that several unorthodox methods of glazing came to fruition utilizing commercial low fire, highly fluxed, reactive, and crystal glazes to create a dazzling palette of finishes. These results have been described in many ways: Luscious. Random. Runny. Marbly. Amazing. Dwippy. He likes to say “they’re so loose they slide” and the results have inspired him to utilize clay forms other than his teapots.
Fong Choo continues to strive for metamorphosis, growth, and expansion within his artwork. He cherishes both focus and wandering creativity, a tension felt throughout his stunning body of work.
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Please join us to meet the artist from 2:00 to 5:00pm and enjoy this wonderful exhibit. To schedule an appointment contact Julie Schweitzer at 502-649-3320 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
